the garden - work in progress

It's chilly this morning. If someone were to have told me that today's date is November 12th I would believe them. But there is something very comforting about working indoors when it's so chilly outside. I've been listening to Devendra Banhart and sipping on Earl Gray since I woke up, so I really can't complain.

On to my painting. I've been working on the hair while allowing the skin dry. I'll be adding plenty more strands later, but this is a start.

I'm about to start on the tattoos now. Soon enough she'll be covered in flowers, leaves and poetry.

yours,
Charmaine

nautical ladies

watercolor, gouache & india ink
Here are some Aquatic Siamiese-Haired Mermaid girls for you. Another from the series of pissed-off ladies. They probably don't like the fact that I give them crooked teeth and heavy eyelashes.

Anyway, how are you this morning? (Or I suppose it's afternoon now? When did this happen) Are you enjoying the rain? Our wisteria flowers are still blooming and they smell so sweet mixed with the rain. I'm drinking mango black tea with cream, honey and some vanilla. It's like, ridiculously delicious. The last inch or so is always the sweetest, so it's a little syrupy at the moment. And on another note, I brought home some chocolate with pop rocks for Joe (ok, and me). SO GOOD.

Vampire - finished

Phantom birds and sparrow's wings
watercolor, gouache, acrlyic ink and india ink - 10" x 10"
 --
My work has been a little darker lately, undoubtedly because of the strange dreams I have been having. I originally started this blog to have a place to write about my dreams, but it's a bit of a commitment to write them down before they flit away. (I'd rather focus on drawing than writing anyway). I have always wanted to draw my dreams though. Could be fun, could be utter nonsense. (Like the high-heeled purple mink boots I tried wearing to the beach the other night). It seems my dreams influence my art anyway, so I'm indirectly writing about them when I draw. Anyway, thanks for listening. Now go enjoy your Sunday!

And thanks to the lovely Elsie Flannigan over at A Beautiful Mess for featuring me in "10 Things I love Sunday"! ♥

three birds in a rat's nest

Detail shot of the arm band. The picture doesn't do it justice, it's metallic gold, silver and blueeessss.

I took the piece of the easel to do the penwork. Here is my messy tabletop + a cup of tea.

Oil paint, india ink, and liquid metallic acrylic inks.
