floral birds part II

8" x 10" Watercolor & ink

Last night I was doodling and couldn't help drawing more flowery birds! One of my shows coming up is garden themed, so I thought this would fit.  I love combining patterns and mediums, kind of like a drawn collage. I'm working on a little floral fox right now, which I can't wait to show you. I'm totally hooked on drawing with watercolors! It was especially enjoyable last night; drawing, listening to some old music that made me feel really nostalgic, sipping on some green tea matcha and a kitten snoozing on my lap. Although, kitten has been a little psycho lately. He likes climbing up Joe's back while he's working, so now has all these little red dots from kitten claws. Awww. But I did give Joey a haircut the other day.
Muahaha. Clippers are fun.

The 50 States! - Ohio

Alright, Ohio, I love you to death, but you were a bitch to draw. I had these adorable little gray squirrels in there, but it looked way too cluttered to me. Anyway, besides the occasional frustrations, I'm really enjoying this series. I'm learning what makes each state unique and beautiful, (which is also where I run in to the clutter problem).

Here are some things I learned and included in this piece:
• The Ohio state flower is the Red Carnation
• The state bird is the Cardinal
• The state animal is the White Tailed Deer.
• It's known as "The Buckeye" state, that's what those little brown polka dots on her undies are! (Yes, I just said undies)

Anyway, hope you like it!

I'm thinking maybe New Mexico next?? I'd love to draw some Native American themes

Love,
Charmaine

Jens Lekman

I drew this silly little picture of Jens Lekman a while ago. It wasn't finished when I left it, but if I don't touch a piece for over a week that generally means it's done. So here you go.
(hope he likes it)

Ahh, Swedish pop!
"Yeah I got busted, I painted a dirty word on your Old Man's Mercedes Benz cause you told me to do it"
Oh Jens, please don't ever stop writing music.

Birds in birds

I've had a really difficult time being productive this week. I feel like it's "artis's block" but without the lack of inspiration. I have plenty of ideas and images in my mind, I'm just having trouble with the follow-through part. I"m sure you can relate? If i didn't throw away all my nonsense drawings I'd consider showing them to you. Well, here are some doodled birds to make me feel like I've accomplished something.

Anyway, I'm going home to visit my parents next week, I'm hoping the sunshine and salty sea air will help!

Also, here is one photo from the other night. I feel like this looks like an album cover or something.

Vampire - finished

Phantom birds and sparrow's wings
watercolor, gouache, acrlyic ink and india ink - 10" x 10"
 --
My work has been a little darker lately, undoubtedly because of the strange dreams I have been having. I originally started this blog to have a place to write about my dreams, but it's a bit of a commitment to write them down before they flit away. (I'd rather focus on drawing than writing anyway). I have always wanted to draw my dreams though. Could be fun, could be utter nonsense. (Like the high-heeled purple mink boots I tried wearing to the beach the other night). It seems my dreams influence my art anyway, so I'm indirectly writing about them when I draw. Anyway, thanks for listening. Now go enjoy your Sunday!

And thanks to the lovely Elsie Flannigan over at A Beautiful Mess for featuring me in "10 Things I love Sunday"! ♥

three birds in a rat's nest

Detail shot of the arm band. The picture doesn't do it justice, it's metallic gold, silver and blueeessss.

I took the piece of the easel to do the penwork. Here is my messy tabletop + a cup of tea.

Oil paint, india ink, and liquid metallic acrylic inks.
