art show installation

I spent the past two days installing my portion of the show at Project One. Hanging with Angela is always good times.

This was the easy section

(Final image of this painting. Will be doing more in-depth posts about my latest works soon.)

This part was a little more complex, an installation of a bunch of my nicknacks & drawings. my life, basically.

Here it is finished
this is pretty much what my studio looks like. just needs more butterflies and weird mirrors.

I had way too much fun playing with wax.. lalala

Then I looked down and noticed I had all these tiny wax droplets all over my feet! I was oddly amused by this. Like little snowflakes.

I also got to paint a silhouette on the wall. Definitely the largest one I've done.

The other girls' walls look ammmaaaazing, come on by tonight if you're around!! Project One openings are always a party. 21+ up.

Pretty Pretty Collective

Here are a few more images/previews of my new silhouettes for the show on Saturday. We installed the show last night, I'm super excited!

I made 13 total, all of which will be for sale on Pretty Pretty Collective's website, should be up by tomorrow if you wanna snag one up before the opening ;)

Also, I have a painting in a show at C.A.V.E Gallery in LA, opens Friday night (the 14th). Wish I could be there for the opening!

xx
I love these little mirror-y frames. super cutesie. ((I kind of want to keep them for myself. ))

"Anita"

"The Bride"

"Aiyana"

Here's the show flyer.

Here's one from the install last night..

See you Saturday ;)

silhouette sneak peeks

Next Saturday is the opening of Winter's Shadows over at The Pretty Pretty Collective on January 15th, in San Francisco. It's such a rad space! The black walls will go perfectly with my silhouettes.

Here are a few little preview images of some of the ones I've been working on.

Can't get enough of the antlers ;) (it almost looks like I have antlers on my head in my reflection. yaaaay. actually, no, it would really suck to have actual antlers growing out of my head.)

punky girl. my favorite is her little nose piercing. teehee.

Plus a bunch more that you'll just have to come and see next Saturday!

so, I'm juggling like a gazillion illustration projects right now with deadlines like whoa. Somehow I'll swing it, I usually do. But, I wont be sleeping for a while. aaaand enter insanity.
Someone shoulda told me being a full-time artist was so much work ;)

antlers + updates

Thank you to everyone who came out to support us local artists last night at Sketch Tuesdays!
Here's one of the little darlings I drew. The usual, flowers, leaves, antlers & lace.
(Thanks to whoever snapped this pic!)

I also got to sit next to Matt Furie. (Hence the little pink sticky note below) Rad.

I started this one towards the end of the evening but didnt get a chance to finish her until this morning. Think I'll actually keep one of these for myself.

On a similar note, in January Taylor Wessling and I will be doing a show together at Pretty Pretty Collective. He's been drawing these awesome victorian ghostly figures and I'll be doing more silhouettes; good pairing! I have a bunch of brand new silhouettes that I'm excited to share with you when the time comes :)

And finally, this new video by memoryhouse is super magical. I love them entirely too much.

Nylon Magazine + Album Art

Okay, blog, I'm back. I don't mean to neglect you, I've just become really comfortable with the virality of facebook. The instant feedback is exhilarating and engaging. Blogging is a slower pace, but also more methodical and thorough. Can any of you bloggers relate? I in no means want to stop blogging, I like having ideas and images all laid out in one post, but perhaps I've become lazy with the ritual of it. My blog has pretty much become a summary of my weekly facebook postings, but this way I can go in to more detail. Well, here are some of the latest:

My illustration for Nylon Magazine. I've been a fan of Nylon for years, so this was an exciting project for me:

(page 147 in the Dec/Jan issue)

The assignment was to do an illustraiton of Duffy, the welsh singer-songwriter. She put together the mixtape for this issue. It's definitely a very trendy illustration, (I tried hard not to give her extra eyes and tattoos) but a big part of illustrating is catering to the right audience.

One of my best friends Morgan is releasing her debut album in mid-February, under the pseudonym Whiteflowers. I'm honored and excited to be doing all of her artwork. Here is a mock/sketch of the album cover.

We have a really dynamic relationship, always inspiring one another. We're kind of obsessive about sharing work in progresses, I'll text her over a little iPhone pic for feedback and she'll send me a sound clip of a track she's working on. We're even working on an exciting collaboration, which I'll tell you more about later. Here is the link to her soundcloud where you can listen to some of her tracks.

Also, December 14th is another exciting night of Sketch Tuesdays over at 111 Minna. They don't usually have a December edition, but this year it's gonna big, two artist's tables and a killer group show on the walls. You can see one of my pieces on display. I'll be live drawing more silhouettes for your gifting/buyingforyourself pleasure, for cheap! Some bay area superstars will be there, and I get to draw next to them :)

Enough for now. Back to Aveline. She's so close, I can feeeeel it. I want to finish her so can start on my next piece. Yeah, I know, I don't stop. (wont stop)

And on another note, thank you to everyone who participated in the giveaway! Our winner was a boy this time! :p
Also, T-shirts & iphone cases, skins, etc, are now available through my society6 shop. I'm tempted to order one myself!
And my new pirate silhouette is now in my shop, available for pre-order / made-to-order. These might not be up much longer as I spend a lot of time on each one and I have some big paintings to finish. So, get em while you still can ;)

silhouette + houses

Here's a little drawing for an upcoming holiday show at 323 East.
5" x 7" ink on paper

I'm doing a small collage of frames with various silhouettes, boats and victorian houses.
Pretty much my favorite things ever

Also, a group show I'm in in Oakland opened tonight.

Sadly I wasn't able to make it as large portions of Oakland are currently rioting & those sorts of things make me uncomfortable/freaked out. San Francisco rioting over the Giants winning the World Series is different. That was celebratory. This is not.

Anyway, I have two paintings in the show which will be up for a few weeks. Sad to miss the opening of a show with such a spectacular title!

Limited Edition Prints + Tiny Frames

I'm doing a limited edition run of 10 of my piece, "Hold." Printed on Canson watercolor paper, each one is signed, numbered and dated. Now available in my shop!
(Larger prints being sold though Urban Outfitters.)

And I just have to show you this adorable little frame I got yesterday!

Naturally I drew a little silhouette profile, oval frames are perfect for that. And a bike! I've already done a boat, maybe I'll do a train next. I've obviously got modes of transport on my mind, time to travel!
Speaking of travel, I'm going camping this weekend up in Lake Sonoma. We're staying at a place called Bummer's peak. (What a name!) I'm super excited and am going to take 34902834 pictures so I can show you how beautiful Northern California is. And my darling friend Alicia is driving up from LA for the weekend to come with us! I will miss my little kittenface though. He's getting so much bigger already! And is being quite maniacal these days, I must say.

His latest hobby is wrapping around my arm and attacking my fingers. We affectionately call him "Needles" because of this. It actually kind of hurts. Oh, but he's so fluffy and adorable! Okay, okay, I'm done obsessing (for the moment).
Have a lovely weekend! See you at my art shows next Thursday??
xoxo

more flowers + upcoming shows

Wow, I am seriously on a flower kick right now.
watercolor and india ink on Canson watercolor paper
Here's a little preview of something I'm working on.

I also have two upcoming solo shows in SF. One in July and one in September, more details soon!
I hope your holiday weekend was lovely, the sun showed it's face for a day or so, and now it's back to the feeling like it's November. Drat.
