Drawings, sneak peek, madness

Hello dears

Perhaps you've heard of the madness that ensued last night. What a glorious city to be in right now! After 46 years the San Francisco Giants finally won the world series. Honestly, I haven't cared about baseball in a really long time, not since I was little and liked watching the Padres, but the past while has been incredible. Some nights I wouldn't even be watching the games and I could hear my neighborhood erupt in cheers every time someone got a run. And last night was absolutely insane. Thousands of people out in the streets celebrating, crying, lighting mattresses on fire, dancing on firetrucks.. (I expect it was a little difficult to be a city official tonight)

Anyway, it's hard not to get all emotional when your entire city is ecstatic. I don't expect the celebrating to end any time soon. Ha.

Anyway, on a completely separate another note, here is a sneak peek of the painting I'm working on right now. Only just started it, can't wait for you to meet her.

Also, here are a couple of drawing/paintings I did for an upcoming show at 323 East. Doing a few small, affordable pieces for their holiday show. These are both made with india ink & gold leaf. Will be doing a few more for this little grouping.

And finally, today is my honeypie's birthday! Happy Birthday joeyloveybabycakes! (sorry. gross)
(us two years ago when we first started dating. I look so little!)

That's it, have a fantastic Tuesday

Work in Progress

Thank you so much for the sweet comments on my previous post, it sure is good encouragement!
Here are some preview/work in progress pictures of my next piece for the show at Gallery Hijinks.

Oh, and some little drawings from the airplane home.
There's something really therapeutic about drawing on planes.

Flower Boat

Boat!

Kitten paws! He's taken a liking to sleeping on laptops, and sometimes my artwork. The other day we come home and lil Finnegan had typed a message to my friend and Neil Young was playing on iTunes. What a keeper.
Have a lovely week my beauties!

This little guy is my favorite.

And no, I haven't forgotten about my 50 States series. I've just gotten a little distracted with my newfound love for watercolors and teeny skulls.

T-Shirts, Teapots + Tiny Skulls

Yes yes, I'm going through a flower phase. And watercolors are my new best friend.

Black flowers and tiny skulls! This is the counterpart to the original Flower Anchor, this one is a big more..manly?
-
Also! You can get some of my flowers on t-shirts over a Society6. They come in both women's and men's styles, as well as several colors. I personally think they look best on the white.

Flower Anchor

Floral anchors don't work very well.

I had a mini artistic epiphany today. I've always felt very limited with watercolors because I love drawing intricate lines and found that difficult to do. So today I decided to experiment! I dipped my ink pen in some watercolor and tried drawing with it. It actually worked really well and we able to make the thin lines that I love so much! Can't wait to draw some birdies! So excited!!

Sneak Peak + Photobooth pix

Here's a little sneak peak of some things I'm working on for the next issue of Cupcake Magazine. I can't share them with you quite yet, but I couldn't resist showing you a teeny preview!
 ---
Also, here are some pictures of Joe and I from the Best of SF party last night. Open bar and amazing food. I was definitely enjoying the pomegranate martinis!
(And don't mind the obscene amount of "scion" ads, comes with the territory of free photobooth pictures)

My personal favorite. even though we have sleepy eyes.

And thank you forever 21 for supplying me with a ridiculous amount of rings.

Have a lovely weekend my sweets!

BUNNY HANDS

"We Almost Died"
and/or
"I'm Sorry For Giving You Bunnies For Hands, But You Asked For It"
--
I've been super inspired by vintage nude photographs from the 20s. Anyway, this is weird and reminiscent of a dream I had the other night. There was a frog on top of a lizard on top of my foot. I was running with the tiny animals, but being very careful to not let them fall. Alright, so this really has nothing to do with my dream.

But I do want to share this song with you. It's so very beautiful.

The 50 States! - New Mexico

She's finished!
(click image to see it larger)

Alright, so for New Mexico, I went with the obvious Native American theme.
The little red symbol as pictured on her arm and on the headdress is what's found on the New Mexico state flag. Even though their state bird is the adorable Roadrunner, there just wasn't a place for him. Sorry little guy!

My streak of feeling highly unproductive is over (for the moment). Which state shall I do next??

Love,
Charmaine

The 50 States! - Ohio

Alright, Ohio, I love you to death, but you were a bitch to draw. I had these adorable little gray squirrels in there, but it looked way too cluttered to me. Anyway, besides the occasional frustrations, I'm really enjoying this series. I'm learning what makes each state unique and beautiful, (which is also where I run in to the clutter problem).

Here are some things I learned and included in this piece:
• The Ohio state flower is the Red Carnation
• The state bird is the Cardinal
• The state animal is the White Tailed Deer.
• It's known as "The Buckeye" state, that's what those little brown polka dots on her undies are! (Yes, I just said undies)

Anyway, hope you like it!

I'm thinking maybe New Mexico next?? I'd love to draw some Native American themes

Love,
Charmaine

BUNNY EYE

Remake of an older drawing. I guess this one is a little more 'grown-up', with the naked ladies and all.
This is the original. I was looking at it the other day and I decided that I miss my messy drawings. They're satisfyingly free.

Also, if you can read German, there's a little ditty about me in this month's U-Mag.
You can download the PDF here.

flowers and a teapot

TEAPOT!
I think I've decided to leave it black and white, although I do like the idea of a pale green teapot and light yellow flowers. What do you think?

And thanks for the feature, 40fakes!

nautical ladies

watercolor, gouache & india ink
Here are some Aquatic Siamiese-Haired Mermaid girls for you. Another from the series of pissed-off ladies. They probably don't like the fact that I give them crooked teeth and heavy eyelashes.

Anyway, how are you this morning? (Or I suppose it's afternoon now? When did this happen) Are you enjoying the rain? Our wisteria flowers are still blooming and they smell so sweet mixed with the rain. I'm drinking mango black tea with cream, honey and some vanilla. It's like, ridiculously delicious. The last inch or so is always the sweetest, so it's a little syrupy at the moment. And on another note, I brought home some chocolate with pop rocks for Joe (ok, and me). SO GOOD.

Ella + Rain + Waves

Currently listening to Ella Fitzgerald, rain falling on leaves and the sound of the waves hitting the shore. Needless to say, I'm a happy bug.

I'm home visiting my parents for the week in Encinitas. I'm all cozy in my brothers little studio while he's out traveling the world with his lady. (And I also get to use his laptop. Yes please.)
I was fortunate enough to sit next to a fellow Lost-head on the plane. We basically talked Lost the entire flight. Apologies if you were on my flight and had to witness this. muahahaha

Anyway, sometimes I forget how lovely it is here. Definitely looking forward to walks on the beach with mom and nerdy computer and iphone app sessions with my pop. But not looking forward to missing my boo, lucky boy gets to go to Coachella this weekend!

Here's a little preview of a nautical-themed drawing I'm working on.
(No scanner in here, pardon the shoddy Photobooth pic)

Until next time my sweets!

Jens Lekman

I drew this silly little picture of Jens Lekman a while ago. It wasn't finished when I left it, but if I don't touch a piece for over a week that generally means it's done. So here you go.
(hope he likes it)

Ahh, Swedish pop!
"Yeah I got busted, I painted a dirty word on your Old Man's Mercedes Benz cause you told me to do it"
Oh Jens, please don't ever stop writing music.
